In the Java world, there are a large number of web application testing tool alternatives: httpunit, htmlunit, Cactus, Fitnesse, and others. This capjug session will aim to sort out the functional testing landscape as well as demonstrate two of the best candidate tools by writing tests against the same web application.

Selenium is a browser-based testing system with a Firefox plug-in that allows easy recording of tests and writing in HTML, Java, PHP, C#, Ruby, and other languages. Selenium has a diverse community with many tools including an Eclipse plug-in, Ruby on Rails integration, and the ability to run the tests remotely and automatically across several browsers.

Canoo Webtest is a java/groovy-based testing framework whose tests can be written in either an ant task or groovy style. The test reports are richly descriptive, enabling a user to understand the actual test steps, not just the test result.
