Shopbop.com is seeking a technically savvy IT Development Manager to lead a team of Java developers to create and enhance our mission-critical backend business systems. These systems control the flow of merchandise from vendor purchasing to the posting of individual items on our high traffic website.

The Development Manager will bring proven experience building, developing, focusing, and mentoring engineering teams. In addition, the successful candidate will possess a strong technical background, as well as equal understanding of both technical and business aspects of development.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead team of software engineers in design, implementation, and support of backend systems that manage the flow of merchandise.
  • Partner with business analyst team to establish the vision for system direction and define project initiatives to deliver within requirements outlined by the business.
  • Estimate and plan engineering efforts that balance business needs with technical constraints and meet requirements for functionality, reliability, and scalability.
  • People management activities including recruitment, performance management, career development, and training.
  • Manage team on-call support and ensure operational excellence.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field required.
  • 5+ years management experience with developing, motivating, and leading a team of software engineers.
  • Experience as a developer primarily in a Java environment.
  • Expertise in technical innovation and demonstrated ability to deliver reliable, large-scale systems with aggressive timelines.
  • Previous experience with a variety of development methodologies, including Agile.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
  • Experience with retail technology systems preferred.
