Introduction
The U.S. Geological Survey ? Wisconsin Water Science Center has openings for full-time java developers to design and deploy web-based applications in the Middleton Data Center. The primary project will be the development of a national aquatic biology database system for the Water Resources Discipline of the U.S. Geological Survey. These positions are expected to last for at least a year.

The Middleton Data Center manages a variety of projects, from local/regional to international in scope. We pride ourselves in using cutting-edge technologies and techniques to solve data management issues. We support a large community of customers including scientists, academics, policy-makers and the general public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 2 yrs J2EE development experience
  • Multiple Java framework experience especially in the following:
    • Web: Struts, tapestry, wicket, JavaScipt, AJAX
    • ORM: Spring, Hibernate, JDO, JPA
    • JDBC
  • Some experience with database modeling and development

Additional qualifications (desirable, not required)
  • Educational background or professional experience in the natural sciences.
  • Potentially able and interested to work for the Middleton Data Center in a long-term mode (multiple years).
  • Education or experience in project management, project planning or requirements gathering and analysis.
  • Development processes/methodology experience with:
    • Test driven development with JUnit
    • Build tools (Ant and Maven)
    • Source Control (CVS and SVN)
    • Continuous build or integration (Cruise Control, Damage Control, etc.)
    • Agile development philosophies
